Club Flying Locations

OCSA now places gliders at several Southern California locations for extended periods. Club members can use this "distributed" approach to take advantage of different types of lift, to learn about different airport operating procedures, fly over a wide range of terrain, and to fly at the locations most convenient for them. The placement of aircraft may vary from time to time as needs and opportunities change. Members should check the "Club Equipment" page for the current aircraft locations and availability.

Lake Elsinore is the location closest to Orange and Los Angeles counties, and is one of our primary training sites. This location is operated in conjunction with the Lake Elsinore Soaring Club. In the Lake Elsinore area students can use both thermal and "ridge" lift. Often one or more Blanik L13's or the PW5 will be available here.
Warner Springs Warner Springs is the location closest to members in San Diego county, and is also convenient to Riverside County. This site is offers great cross-country opportunities over moderate ranges of mountains. At Warner Springs our private pilot members may have a Blanik L13 or the PW5 available.

Tehachapi Tehachapi is a favorite location for cross-country training. The summer soaring season provides opportunities to head north over the Sierra Nevada mountains. Students can also experience great "shear line" lift in the valley, and anabatic lift over the Tehachapi mountains. Our Grob 103 two-seater is often available here from spring through fall.
California City California City in the Mojave Desert is a jumping-off point for terrific mountain wave soaring. Our Grob 103 may often be found here during the winter and early spring seasons.

Hemet was OCSA's primary training location for many years, providing thermal and shear line lift. Mt. San Jacinto provides a tantalizing opportunity for some mountain soaring. We may return to Hemet when airport conditions permit.
